·          Conduct Lessons 1-8.

·          Administer written examination sections 1 and 2 (Exam A, pages 27 and 28 or Exam B, pages 31 and 32.)

Teach Section 15: Infant and Child CPR (pages 464–521) with the following modifications:

Lesson 1: Introduction

·          Cover all the points under “Participant’s Products” on page 467

·          Conduct the activity that begins on page 468.

·          Show the introduction video segment (1:00).

·          Discuss the key points on pages 468 and 469.

Lesson 2: Recognizing Emergencies

·          Cover the unique point for infant and child emergencies of "Sudden Silence." in the instructor note under "unusual noises" on page 471.

·          Cover the second key point immediately below that.

Lesson 3: Protecting Yourself

·          Cover the key point under "Obtaining Consent" on pages 473 and 474.

·          Cover the instructor note regarding the Consent and Contact Form on page 474.

Lesson 4: Before Providing Care

·          Point out that checking a child or infant for consciousness is similar to that of an adult. With an infant, you may also flick a finger against the bottom of an infant's foot to determine responsiveness (page 478, fourth key point under "Checking an Infant or Child for Consciousness"). 

·          Cover the eighth key point in “Moving an Infant or Child” on page 479.

·          Conduct the infant and child-specific "Wrap Up" on pages 480–481.

Lesson 5: Conscious Choking—Child

·          Show the video segment "Conscious Choking¾Child" (5:19).

·          Point out that care for a conscious choking child is the same as for an adult. 

·          Skip the rest of this lesson.

Lesson 6: Prioritizing Care—Child

Lesson 7: Rescue Breathing—Child

·          Skip the lesson and skill session, but:

·          Point out that rescue breathing for a child is similar to an adult except the breath is given at a rate of about 1 rescue breath every 3 seconds (20 breaths in 1 minute).

Lesson 8: Cardiac Emergencies/Unconscious Choking—Child

·          Conduct lesson through Child CPR (pages 493–496).

·          Skip remainder of lesson and skill (Unconscious Choking¾Child), except:

·          Cover the first two key points on page 497.

·          Show the video "Unconscious Choking¾Child" (4:56) so that participants may observe the skill. Practice not required because the skills are similar to the adult skills.

·          Point out the skill on the Infant & Child Skills Card.

Conduct Review scenario number 2.

Lesson 10: Prioritizing Care—Infant

Conduct entire lesson.

Administer Sections 2 and 3 (Exam A, pages 76–77 or Exam B, pages 78–79) of the written examination.
